Our Story

In 1922 The Stanton family purchased property along the Rail Line in Alvin and built a simple building, naming their business "EJ Stanton and Sons". In the beginning the store sold feed and fuel but quickly expanded in size and products offered, to include Groceries, meats, clothing, fabric, housewares, hardware and a fountain area for meals. â€‹

Stanton's has always been known for quality meat. In the early years of Alvin, quality beef was unheard of because of the harsh Gulf Coast Climate. Special feeding pens, barns and a slaughter house was constructed so cattle could be feed out locally and its beef could be sent to the store to be marketed.

In the 1950's the store name was changed to "Stanton's Shopping Center" with the slogan "If we don't have it, you don't need it". That slogan holds true today with the store being one of the last of "the old general stores" carrying almost everything you can imagine in it's Grocery, Hardware and Feed Departments.

Faced with stiff competition from large chain stores the grocery department slowly evolved into a one of a kind meat market not only drawing on its history of quality beef but featuring a vast array of store made sausages, bacon, boudin, bacon wrapped stuffed meats and all kinds of exotic meats.

Television advertisements on Houston TV stations helped in getting the word out that "Stanton's Meats - you can taste the difference" and that is it worth the drive to get these great tasting meat products and see this historic store. Wild game processing has also become a large part of the business with many of Stanton's unique award winning flavors being used in the making of customers' wild game products.

It is through hard work and taking advantage of opportunities as they arise that Stanton's got started 100 years ago and that continues to be the case 100 years later.

We thank almighty God for allowing us to live in this great country that gives us the freedom to do so and for His guiding light to lead us into the future.

Little Town
by Pearl Wheatley

like to live in a little town
Where the trees meet across the street.
Where you wave your hand and say "Hello"
To everyone you meet.
I like to stand for a moment
Outside the country store.
And listen to the friendly gossip
Of the folks that live next door.
For life is interwoven
With the friends we learn to know.
And we hear their joys and sorrows
As we daily come and go.
So I like to live in our little town;
I care no more to roam.
For every house in our little town
Is more than a house, it's a Home.
